EDITORIAL

Welcome to LMS Journal No. 23, which is the twenty-fifth edition to be published to date if we include the unnumbered Preview issue and the 85th LMS Anniversary special issue. It is Wild Swan policy to ensure that we can supply backnumbers, but the time comes when the print order is sold out, so I felt I should advise readers that stocks of some of them are not too plentiful.

Since writing the previous editorial, we have made good progress with the Birmingham project, so much so that we have decided to divide it into three parts. The first part will deal with the Western Division lines and the second and third with the Midland Division, but we hope to launch all three at the Warley National Model Railway Exhibition, which is held at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham, on 22nd/23rd November. Mark Norton will be on the LMS Matters stand on Saturday, but unfortunately he can not be with us on Sunday. Graham Warburton will be on hand both days to deal with signalling queries, although as you will see from this issue, we are beginning to see further examples of his research, with an article on the LMS Scottish Committee. I am also pleased to say, as in previous years, my dear friend Don Field will be helping me present the face of LMS Journal and Midland Record.

In this issue I believe we have a varied mix of articles, with a total of five from Keith Miles and Graham Warburton. I am also pleased to be able to publish further pictures by Reg Batten, and a study of the Kettering to Huntingdon line by Stanley Jenkins. LMS Journal No. 24 may also be on sale at the Warley Exhibition so I am looking forward to a busy weekend when I will meet both readers and contributors, whose support is invaluable.
