EDITORIAL

This edition, the third to appear in 2002, concludes the LMS titles to be published by Wild Swan this year.

During the past few weeks I have been delighted to receive a variety of comments from readers, including the inevitable question, 'How will the Journal develop and what plans do you have for the future?' I have never made any secret of the plans that the publisher and I share, namely to publish articles that are wide-ranging, and to investigate subjects that are generally ignored by other railway magazine publishers. We found this was a successful formula for Midland Record, as readers of that Journal will confirm.

By the time LMS Journal No.4 appears in the spring of next year, I think readers will be able to judge the spread of 'LMS' material that is available to us so far, but I am always interested to hear what views or ideas readers may have, so your comments are always welcome.

Turning now to the content of this issue, I am pleased to be able to introduce readers to a subject close to my heart, namely the traffic that was carried by the LMS Railway Company and to include a feature on a branch line that was a little out of the ordinary.

Members of the LMS Society continue to support this issue; there are contributions from John Edgington, David Hunt and Graham Warburton, and I can now confirm that the Society's Symposium will be held at Chesterfield over the weekend of 28th February to 2nd March 2003. Full details appeared in LMS Journal No.2. Finally, the LMS Locomotive Profile series. At the time of writing, the title most advanced deals with the Princess Royal 4-6-2s, but work has also started on the class 2 Ivatts.
